blogified: a short history

So now that no one comes here all the time, or ever here's the scoop! Section6 started out a long time ago, before I was married, before I had a career as experiments in open source. More specifically, experiments in ipv6! It seems that ipv6 has been a very long time coming. I don't write tutorials much anymore, I don't even have time! So what is section6 going to be now?

microsoft tourettes syndrome

So I think I have a condition that could be known as Microsoft Tourettes Syndrome. It occured to me while trying to open a docx document. For those of you who don't know. docx is that new MS XML format that's been getting so much press lately but that pretty much no one uses yet.

Plagarism!?

Plagarism at Section6?! Yep there's been quite a few articles posted on my site that were complete ripoffs of others (with and without credit). Though I didn't post them myself, I do take responsibility as this is my site. If you do see any articles that are more or less blatent ripoffs of others' please bring them to my attention by commenting on this post.

More helpful hints

Last week I threw up a quick howto for SNMP. I spent the better part of this week at work figuring out how iLO2 works with HP's servers. In any case, iLO does most of it's alerting with snmp so I was tasked with getting an snmp trap handling system working. Before long I was thinking "I'm sure someone else is going to have to do this". I also found that the snmptt documentation was a little too thorough and not very good at helping the user set it up quickly, so I basically made my own. I'm sure someone else should find it helpful.

Everything's gone green

I finally decided it was time for a change at Section6. No more space bog theme. Now everything has gone green! I hoping for a more fresh look this way, obviously things are lining up a bit better too. Also I took the forums down because frankly, no one really uses them. I plan on bringing at least anonymous comments back but using captcha, but I'll have to wait for it to be released for this cms. There hasn't been much content here in a while, but I have few more things I want to add. Namely, using postfix with ldap exclusively instead of a passwd file.

Cleanup time

Time to put on my overalls and get out the spraypaint because there's lots of graffiti on my site from our fine friends in .br (Brazil). You can blame 201.17.198.232 for these. If this does keep up they're going to have to find another place to graffiti from. If you wanted to post anonymous but cannot anymore. You know who to point the finger at. If it becomes a big issue, I may just blackhole them. Also Tbon has put up a tutorial on setting up mythtv on ubuntu. There's been a lot of hype on myth lately and honestly, I just gave up on my myth box in favor of a Mac Mini with FrontRow. However if you have some time and persistence, a myth box is a lot of fun.

New Server is Go

After many weeks of prep, some waiting, and some juggling I finally have colocated section6. Along with that section6 has been upgraded to the latest versions of php, apache, drupal, and freebsd. Many thanks to the seattle community colo for their hosting for a very low fee. As you can see some theme strangeness has happened with the new version of drupal. Something I still need to work on, but now that the colo move is complete I suppose I'll have a new project. Thanks everyone who participated in the poll!

The section6 theme?

Big Changes at Section6

Section6 hasn't been abandoned, but it has been left alone for a while. We've installed a new content manager on section6 to make things easier, not only for us, but for you too. I'll also be posting blog entries for fun, and the forums won't be broken anymore. Any people who visit this site often, I'd love to hear from you. Also section6 has moved! Since I've physically moved from an apartment with speakeasy dsl to a home that has only cable internet I'm going to petition to get section6 colocated. I'm hoping the folks at Seattle Community Colo give me a postitive response.

Summer At Section6

Summer is here for Section6, and along with the change of season comes a few minor changes to the site. During the course of these changes, users might experience a few glitches with the Support Forums and Tutorial Wiki. Please be patient as we update these services and feel free to email or post any questions you might have. Again, thank you for your patience and support.
