How to clean essential oil

Say you or someone you know is burning some aromatics in the form of essential oils in a diffuser. Of course you forget to rinse it out, or you do and it gets sticky. You try cleaning it with scrubs, ajax, soap, about anything you find but it doesn't come out. What's the best option? Simple rubbing alcohol. Works like a charm!
